The Academy Awards is America's oldest and most venerated awards ceremony to honor achievement in film industries. In place since 1929, the Academy Awards broadcast is now seen in more than 200 countries around the world. Winners in all categories receive a gold statuette, which has come to be known as an "Oscar." The biggest night in film is just around the corner, and at Genki, we have our own list of winning dishes that deserve accolades. Below we present our picks for the Top 5 Genki dishes of 2016 for your review and votes.
Category 1: Most Visually Appealing
As the public waits to see what Jennifer Lawrence and Cate Blanchette will wear on the red carpet, we believe that our "Chirashi Bowl" would sweep the category if looks were the deciding factor. "Chirashi" translates to "scattered," and this dish features an array of fish and colorful vegetables mixed with rice. You can accessorize with additional ingredients of your choice. Styling by Chef Jimmy Meas.
Category 2: Most Traditional
The Oscars always recognizes films that center on traditional themes, such as survival, which can be seen in "The Revenant" and "The Martian." A dish is elevated to a culinary tradition when it is universally embraced and celebrated. Our "Hamachi Kama" fits that bill, and features the juicy collar of yellowtail that has been grilled/broiled to perfection, with crispy skin and a perfectly moist interior.
Category 3: Most Filling
Film buffs are rooting for Sylvester Stallone to take home his first Oscar as he shows up for his third nomination playing the role of Rocky Balboa. At Genki, we get the same warm and filling feeling with Chef Jimmy's Seafood Hot Pot. This dish is based on a curried cream sauce over white rice. Red pepper, bok choy and Thai basil add color to pieces of salmon, shrimp, scallops and mussels.
Category 4: Best Tasting
Many people are surprised to see "Mad Max: Fury Road" up against more traditional films in the category of Best Picture, but the movie was a fan favorite in theaters. In the same way, many Genki diners love our Crispy Coconut Roll. Featuring shrimp tempura, avocado, and Yuzu chili sauce, this role also brings a sweet surprise with the addition of juicy mango.
Category 5: Best (Supporting) Side Dish
Christian Bale and Rooney Mara aren't often overshadowed, but Genki's salted edamame might just take home a statue when it comes to playing a solid supporting role. Our guests love these steamed soybeans, which are a salty and crunchy way to start your meal. Edamame is lauded as one of the world's Five Ancient Grains and has been a favorite side dish for many generations.
Genki is proud to offer our guests an array of exceptional Asian fusion dishes and sushi choices in a beautiful and inviting environment. When it comes to recognition, we would proudly nominate the menu items described above, and we feel certain that our guests would continue to support these dishes. That said, it is also important to try something new from time to time. Visit our restaurant and try one of our favorite dishes, or explore the menu and try something new! No matter what you order, we're sure you're going to leave full and satisfied.
